The most important things in life are hard or impossible to understand.
Why did you fall in love with this particular person? How did you suddenly decide on something you couldn’t do for a long ten years? Why, against all the advantages, did you change companies, industries, countries?
Adult questions are similar to children’s.
Why did one read, another ride, and a third watch beetles?
Don’t rush to answer them. That will be rationalization.
Better let them remain a mystery. Which, however, gives the key.
So childhood passions later reproduce as fractals. The toys remain; only their complexity, scale, and price change.
What’s important is not the reason for the pull toward something specific, but the general pattern itself.
Someone who loved building worlds in dreams still does. Someone who solved problems still solves them: fast, intuitively, non-trivially.
You only need to abstract a little your passion and its object.
Maybe these signals are sent by Future You. Maybe God. Or the Self.
The main thing is that inside a pull toward X appears and doesn’t let go.
