Everything truly new looks strange.
Dirty. Indecent. Crazy. Disgusting. Scary.
And if there’s not even a flicker of discomfort, it’s probably not Novelty.
A negative emotion is a pointer: “Something valuable might be in there.”
Unfortunately, people misread the sign:
“Scary means dangerous. Better not go there, or even look.”
Like a stingy storekeeper complaining: “Why sell? That’s just an expense!”
Like every great lie, this one contains a grain of truth. Everything new really is dangerous... The only question is, to whom?
The answer is: to any old forms. Change will affect them for sure.
Sometimes a person ties himself to those precious forms. So their adaptation—or worse, their destruction—feels to the Ego like its own death.
You’ve probably already guessed where to look for a way out.
First, remember your personal meaning. It is bigger than your current forms.
Then stay with the Novelty long enough to create a gap between “scary” and “dangerous.”
Finally, take even a tiny but real step right over the fear.
Sincerely yours,
-Alexander
