Vigilance is needed so we don’t miss danger.
The idea is familiar, and we know how indispensable the Mind is here.
Less obvious is that this is also true for a favorable opportunity.
And not because a clouded or inattentive Mind might miss it.
The point is that a gift often comes in a form we don’t expect.
We may well get scared if novelty catches us off guard.
And then anything can be perceived as an obstacle, a trap, a threat.
We’ll angrily exclaim, “A curse!” while pointing a finger at our gift.
Now it becomes clear why we need to stay vigilant.
When we notice something strange, we can stay with it for a while and observe.
Early detection of an anomaly creates a buffer of time and patience.
The strange gets a chance to reveal its true meaning to us.
To pleasantly surprise us and, ultimately, change our lives for the better.
